The Metric System
The metric system is used universally throughout the science world. The term metric comes from the base unit of length, the meter. Meter is defined as one ten-millionth of the distance from the north pole to the equator and it can be spelled as either meter or metre, but most textbooks will spell it as meter. The base unit for measuring length is the meter (m). The base unit for measuring volume is the liter (L). The base unit for measuring mass is the kilogram (kg). |
